Eight of Swords
In a dark and narrow cell, a bound traveler is surrounded by invisible shackles, as though each chain is inscribed with inner fear and doubt. He appears trapped in endless darkness, yet within that confined space gradually discovers that what truly restricts him is not the external chains but the inescapable fear and confusion within his own heart. Legend says the traveler tried to break free, but every attempt only plunged him deeper into the mire of self-doubt. Until one day he finally realized that only by bravely facing the fear within can he find the key to unlock his shackles. This parable tells us that when we impose limits upon ourselves, external predicaments become equally unbreakable; only by liberating the bonds of the heart can one truly step into the vast expanse of freedom and growth. [Imagery and Symbolism] A woman bound with red cloth, blindfolded, stands within a fence of eight swords (bondage and restriction). A puddle lies at her feet, with a castle in the background.
