This is the most critical question in reading Court Cards. Here are several guidelines to help you:

**1. The nature of the question**: If you're asking "How does this person see me?" or "What kind of person is my ex?", the Court Card usually represents a person. If you're asking "What is my state in this matter?", the Court Card more likely represents an aspect of yourself or an energy.

**2. Position in the spread**: If a Court Card appears in the "other person" position, it usually represents someone else; if it's in the "self" position, it usually represents your own state.
