The Inner Child is the collection of emotional memories and needs from your childhood. Tarot is a gentle bridge for communicating with the inner child—helping you heal needs that went unmet in childhood and release repetitive patterns in adult life.
What Is the Inner Child?
Every adult carries a child within—the emotional memories, needs, and wounds from when you were 3, 7, or 12 years old. When your partner suddenly goes quiet and you feel panicked, when your boss criticizes you and you want to hide and cry, when someone says "no" and you feel unloved—these are often not adult rational responses, but your inner child speaking, replaying emotional programs from childhood. Inner child healing isn't about dwelling in past pain—it's about letting that child feel seen, heard, and accepted, so they no longer need to keep creating the same patterns in your adult life.
Inner Child Symbols in Tarot
**Six of Cups**: The card that most directly represents the inner child—childhood memories, innocence, past emotional connections. When this card appears, ask: "What does my childhood self want in this situation?"
**The Fool**: The inner child's purity and original trust. When The Fool appears, your inner child is reminding you: you originally had pure curiosity and trust—later experiences took it away.
**The Moon**: Childhood fears, illusions in the dark. When The Moon appears, ask: "Is this fear an adult rational judgment, or a fear pattern learned in childhood?"
**Five of Cups**: Childhood losses and grief—pain not yet mourned. This card invites you: don't only look at the three overturned cups; see the two still standing—childhood wounds didn't take everything from you.
**The Sun**: The inner child in its healthiest state—pure joy, play, and radiance. This card reminds you: that happy child is still within you, only temporarily obscured by life's pressures.

**Card 1: What is my inner child feeling right now?** (Let the child speak, not your adult rationality); **Card 2: What does my inner child most need?** (May be recognition, safety, play time, or to be seen); **Card 3: What childhood experience is still influencing my patterns today?**; **Card 4: How can I give my inner child what they need?** (What can the adult you provide?); **Card 5: When my inner child is healed, what in my life will change?**
After the spread, try this practice: place the card from Position 1 (the inner child's feelings) in front of you and speak to it as you would to a real child: "I see you. Your feelings matter. You don't have to carry this alone. I'm here." This seemingly simple action often has profound emotional healing effects.
